Не удается открыть alsamixer

Звук не работает, звуковое устройство ввода / вывода не обнаружено, и я не могу открыть alsamixer:

$ alsamixer

Как решить эту проблему чтобы я мог получить доступ к выводу звука и в итоге заставить его работать нормально?
