Во-первых, действительно ли Вы уверены, что необходимо создать PCRE из источника? Версия 8.31 libpcre3 и pcregrep доступна из 14,04 репозиториев.

Ваша ошибка является использованием sudo в команде

sudo ./configure && make && make install

, которую Это выполняет configure сценарий как корень (приводящий к корневым выходным файлам) и затем пытается работать make и make install как Ваш обычный пользователь. Эти make шаг перестал работать из-за корневого .deps/ файлы.

нет никакого серьезного основания использовать sudo при конфигурировании и создании программного обеспечения из источника в собственном корневом каталоге: вместо этого, работайте

./configure
make

и затем, после того как Вы подтвердили, что программное обеспечение создало успешно, используйте sudo для финала make install - который делает , требуют, чтобы полномочия пользователя root, по крайней мере, для местоположения стандартной установки

sudo make install

зафиксировали владение теперь, необходимо будет или запустить

sudo chown ashley:ashley /home/ashley/Downloads/pcre-8.37

или удалить целый каталог и запуститься с недавно распакованного tarball.
