Disk spinning down

Is there any reason why when I eject my external HDD the disk keeps on spinning? I never get this problem with same external Windows HDD on и Мак.

It annoys я having eject it, and then run this from the терминал to stop it spinning:

udisks --detach /dev/sdb

It is small things like this which пахал простой to resolve, and would make Ubuntu/Mint обитал user friendly.

Question: Why hasn't it been implemented? I assume there is в high-tech reason behind this...
